Tradition
Ceremonial Guard
on Parliament Hill
The Ceremonial Guard is made up primarily from reservist personal of the Governor Generals Foot Guard and the Canadian Grenadier Guards, which provide a company sized guard each. Support personnel from other elements of the Canadian Forces and elements of the Canadian Army support the Guard in performing its annual duties. A company sized Ceremonial Guard parades daily on Parliament Hill from the end of June until the end of August, with special parades performed as required at the Governor Generals residence, and at special events across Canada throughout the summer. A note of interest, when the Guards aren't out strutting there stuff on the soft lawn of Parliament Hill, they are out learning what it is like to dig a trench and hump a rucksack in the sunny training areas of Petawawa and Meaford.
Honour
The Canadian Forces, like any Armed Forces/service has many Medals and decorations to honour the achievement's of the Force or Service. The highest award to Canadian's today is the world famous Victoria Cross which has recently been re-introduced to the Canadian Forces.
